Operation Cadburys: Our Joint Mission With Soldiers On The Move

At Military Movers UK, we often say that removals and logistics are less about shifting boxes and more about executing a well-defined mission. Recently, we had the pleasure of proving this theory on a nationwide scale. In a unique collaboration that combined the forces of two of the UK’s leading veteran-led removal firms, we joined forces with the fantastic team at Soldiers On The Move for a project we officially designated as Operation Cadburys.

The objective was straightforward but logistically demanding: collect bespoke sweet display units on behalf of Cadbury from prestigious venues and opera houses across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. These units then needed to be safely transported and consolidated at a central holding facility right here in our home territory of Coventry.

While the name “Operation Cadburys” might sound like a treat, the execution required the kind of discipline, coordination, and precision that only those with a background in the Armed Forces can truly provide. This blog post serves as our “After Action Report,” highlighting the success of the mission and our respect for our brothers-in-arms over at Soldiers On The Move.

Who Are Soldiers On The Move?

Before we dive into the tactical details of the mission, it is important to introduce our partners in this operation. Based in the North West, Soldiers On The Move is a trusted provider of residential removals and commercial logistics. Much like ourselves at Military Movers UK, they were founded by experienced service members who wanted to bring a higher standard of organisation to the removals industry.

Led by their Founder and Managing Director, Danny, the team at Soldiers On The Move operates with a clear mission statement: to empower ex-military personnel by providing meaningful employment and structure during their transition back into civilian life. They predominantly serve the Manchester area, offering expert Manchester removals and Stockport removals, but their reach extends nationwide.

We have long admired their About Us philosophy. They understand that they aren’t just moving possessions; they are handling people’s lives and memories. This shared ethos made them the natural choice for a joint operation of this magnitude. When two companies share the same core values of discipline, reliability, and teamwork, the resulting synergy is something quite special.

Mission Briefing: The Logistics of a National Icon

The Cadbury contract was a significant undertaking. These were not standard retail displays; they were bespoke, high-value units situated in sensitive locations, including historic opera houses and busy city centre venues. These locations are notoriously difficult for logistics teams due to restricted loading access, strict time windows, and the sheer volume of pedestrian traffic.

To ensure the mission was a success, we decided to apply a “Divide and Conquer” strategy. By splitting the UK into two operational sectors, we could maximise our efficiency and ensure that no unit was left behind.

The Northern Sector: Managed by Soldiers On The Move

With their tactical headquarters in Manchester, the team at Soldiers On The Move took charge of the northern theatre. Their area of responsibility included:

  • Glasgow and Edinburgh

  • Liverpool and Manchester

  • Sunderland and York

  • Stoke-on-Trent

Their expertise in nationwide removals was put to the test as they navigated the tight streets of Edinburgh and the busy ports of Liverpool. Each collection required meticulous packing services to ensure the bespoke glass and wood units remained in pristine condition throughout the long haul south.

The Southern Sector: Managed by Military Movers UK

Operating from our base in the West Midlands, Military Movers UK handled the southern half of the map. Our teams focused on venues across London, the South Coast, and the West Midlands removals corridor. We utilised our local knowledge of Coventry removals and Warwickshire removals to ensure that our half of the project was executed without a hitch.

The Synergy of Service: Why Veteran Teams Succeed

People often ask why veteran-led firms like ours and Soldiers On The Move are so effective in the commercial logistics sector. Operation Cadburys provided the perfect case study for the “Military Method.”

1. Communication Discipline

Throughout the project, communication between our dispatch teams and the SOTM team was constant and clear. In the military, “SITREPs” (Situation Reports) are vital. We applied this same logic to our logistics. If a team in Sunderland faced a delay at an opera house, our central facility in Coventry knew about it instantly. This allowed us to adjust the “Arrival at Destination” windows for our holding facility staff, ensuring no man-hours were wasted.

2. Precision and Punctuality

In the world of professional theatre and opera, “The Show Must Go On.” We had to work around rehearsals and performances. Arriving five minutes late was not an option. Both teams treated these time slots as hard deadlines, ensuring that the Cadbury units were extracted with zero disruption to the venues’ daily operations.

3. Problem Solving Under Pressure

Logistics rarely go exactly to plan. Whether it was a blocked access road in York or a low-clearance bridge in a southern village, our crews did not panic. We are trained to find the “alternate route.” The methodical approach ingrained in us during our service allows us to assess a problem, formulate a plan, and execute it efficiently.

Overcoming the Challenges of Urban Access

One of the most complex aspects of Operation Cadburys was the nature of the venues. Opera houses and historic theatres were built long before the era of 3.5-tonne Luton vans and HGVs.

In many instances, the Soldiers On The Move team in the North had to utilise their specialised Man and Van services to navigate narrow alleys that larger trucks simply couldn’t enter. Meanwhile, in the South, Military Movers UK faced similar challenges in the heart of London. By using a mix of vehicle sizes and a high ratio of manpower to equipment, we ensured that every bespoke unit was handled with “white-glove” care, regardless of the physical obstacles.

Our shared expertise in office moves and commercial moving services proved invaluable here. We understand that commercial assets require a different level of protection than standard household goods. The display units were wrapped in heavy-duty transit blankets and secured with industrial-grade strapping, a standard procedure for both our firms.

Mission Success: The Coventry Consolidation

The final phase of Operation Cadburys was the delivery to the designated holding facility in Coventry. One by one, the vans from the North and South arrived at the depot. It was a proud moment to see the Soldiers On The Move vehicles pulling into the Midlands, having successfully completed their long-distance trek from as far as Glasgow.

Once the final handover was signed off, the operation was officially declared a success. Every single unit was delivered safely, securely, and punctually. There was no damage, no missing inventory, and no frustrated clients.

We ended the mission the way every good veteran-led team does: with the kettles flicked on and a quick debrief before heading back to our respective depots. It was a testament to what can be achieved when two teams with a shared history and a common goal “divide and conquer.”

Supporting the Veteran Community

Beyond the logistical success, Operation Cadburys was about something more important: the Armed Forces community. By partnering with Soldiers On The Move, we were able to support Danny’s mission to employ those transitioning out of service.

At Military Movers UK, we are equally committed to this cause. Our Story page details our dedication to hiring veterans and providing a workplace that understands the unique challenges of post-service life. Whether it is through careers at SOTM or joining our ranks in the West Midlands, we are both working to ensure that the skills learned in the military, leadership, fortitude, and technical ability are not lost to the civilian world.

A Partnership Built on Trust

We would like to extend a massive “Thank You” and a salute to the entire team at Soldiers On The Move. Their professionalism in the North made our job in the South and at the Coventry facility much easier.

If you are looking for a removal firm you can trust in the Manchester, Altrincham, or Cheshire areas, we cannot recommend them highly enough. Similarly, for those in our neck of the woods looking for storage services in Coventry or a house move in Leamington Spa, Military Movers UK is ready to deploy.

Operation Cadburys proved that if you want a job done properly, you get the soldiers in. Whether it’s moving bespoke chocolate displays or the entire contents of your family home, precision matters.
